Founded in 1988 by visionary Batswana leaders, Mmegi Publishing Trust (MPT) is a non-profit organization dedicated to strengthening democracy through advocacy, media, and creative expression.

We believe that an informed citizenry is the foundation of a just and accountable society—and that freedom of expression is the heartbeat of democracy.

Our Vision

To become a leading organisation in contributing through advocacy and media to the development of an informed, open and accountable society.

Our Structure

MPT is governed by a Board of Trustees comprising leaders in education, media, business, and civil society. Our Secretariat implements the Trust’s programs and manages day-to-day operations with transparency and accountability.

Our Mission

>To participate in electronic media (broadcasting, e-business etc, the publication of newspapers, books and literary/literacy works, and magazines on a sustainable basis.
>To promote the development of botswana arts, Languages and cultures.
>To organise educational campaigns and act as a lobby group for freedom of expression and association, and media freedom.
>To participate in the operation of a legal defence fund for journalists, writers and other media workers in partnership with MISA and other NGOs.

Our Legacy

Over the past three decades, MPT has been instrumental in shaping Botswana’s public discourse. Through our flagship investment, Dikgang Publishing Company—publishers of *Mmegi* newspaper—we’ve provided a trusted platform for free, independent journalism. Our ongoing projects in education, broadcasting, and publishing continue to amplify citizen voices, expand access to information, and cultivate a new generation of storytellers and thought leaders.
